Help Us Pay Our Hosting Bills
Because of our strict policy against beating our site with that giant electronic ugly stick called “advertising,” we depend primarily upon readers’ donations to help cover our DreamHost hosting fees. Any amount you can spare will help us to keep this site on-line and ad-free.
Donations are handled through Paypal, but you can donate with a credit card even if you don’t have a Paypal account.
Superthanks!

It may not technically be “load balancing”… I offloaded the images and static cache files to a domain on a separate shared account on another machine, all in hopes of reducing the load on this box. It helped a little, but not enough. If you look at the properties of the images on any newer articles, you’ll see that they’re served from damninteresting.net (rather than .com).
Anyway, this is the first time I ever tossed money in an internet hat because your website is a great resource full of damn interesting things and I like it very much. Thanks.”
Thanks!
Damn Interesting is one of my first stops in the “first 15 minutes of work that are my time”. Anybody who puts a site like this together deserves my $25 donation. And you may certainly use it directly on hookers or booze if you so desire. Who knows? It may lead to a Damn Interesting article….
You’ve got my support, or $10 at least. Thanks for the awesome content and great site. It’s become a part of my day as well.
This is one of the first sites I read everytime I browse the internet! And that deserves a $10 donation.
There’s a reason I’ve been here pretty much every day since mid-September 2005. And the reason is because this site really does live up to its domain name. Alan and the crew have my support!
I wouldn’t mind if you put ads up! Why don’t you?
It’d be supercool if you responded.
At some point you have to recognize when a hobby becomes a business. I’m sure you get enough traffic to justify some advertisement revenue in order to pay the cost of hosting. I know I certainly wouldn’t mind. You’ve got a great thing going here. Don’t let it become inconvenient and destroy the fun of it.
Putting ads on a site it is akin to beating it with an ugly stick. But that stick’s not just ugly, it’s distracting and information-diluting. I don’t like seeing ads on other sites, so I can’t put them on this one in good conscience.
So far donations have covered our hosting bills most of the time, and we have some plans to get something back for our efforts without resorting to the obnoxious. Thanks for caring enough to make suggestions, but for this project, ad-based revenue is not an option.
Guess you might be able to sell rights to articles if you stop getting enough donations?
OK. I dig the site so here is 25 bucks. Hope it helps. Keep up the good work. Damn.
Love it Love it Love it! Damned Interesting will stay that way without advertising! Way to go Alan, keep up the good work.
Well,
I don’t really have enough to donate right now, since since I’m already running short of funds, but I wanted to comment, so here I am.
Well, I just came across the site today, while I was looking for articles to put up on my blog. http://www.acchablog.com. Don’t worry, I always add articles with links to “Source”.
Anywez, about my blog, “Accha?” means “Oh really?” and “Accha” (without the ? ) means good/nice.
I loved reading the articles posted here. Hoping to continue the same in the future.
Damn Interesting.
I’d surely contribute, if I can. Stupid paypal doesnt support India fully yet.
All the best with the site.

Well I finally did it! I stopped being a lurker and made an account, but not only that I also donated $20 to the website. Oh! I was wondering this while I was submitting the tip, is there some way that we, the donaters, could view the ratio of X collected tips to the cost of the web site is for X month. I was just curious because I definitly want to help keep this web site alive, and make it as small of a burden for the web master.
Alan, your donation-box is on my list of things to throw money at when I have too much of it to know what to do with. I also share your philosophy on ads, I hate ‘em simply because there’s so damned much of them in this country, so thank you for being different.

I really enjoy reading the articles on your website, I sent $10, though as a server tech I must wonder about what you write above. Load Balancing isn’t something that happens until a website is running on more than one server.. But you say you are running on a shared machine? Strange. Anyway, this is the first time I ever tossed money in an internet hat because your website is a great resource full of damn interesting things and I like it very much. Thanks.
