What's frightening is the bottle of radium paint he found in an antique clock. David was riding in a car through town with the gieger counter on, and it suddenly skwaaaaked. He followed it to its source, which was a antique table clock. Radium paint was used to make the hands of the clock glow in the dark, and a workman had left a bottle in the timepiece. It had been contaminating people for decades before David found it. Makes you wonder how many other sources of harmful radiation are lurking in places we go.

I've read The Radioactive Boy Scout twice and Thumper235 sounds just like an adult David Hahn. Either it's him or a well researched parody of him. David Hahn in the book was irrational, egocentric, obsessive and delusional. He put himself and people around him in constant danger. He tinkered with dangerous substances with only the vaguest idea of what he was doing and admitted he purposely dismissed any logic that would have made him stop and hardly regretted anything. He did crazy experiments on himself with steroids, "mushroom shakes", home-made hair dyes, and tanning substances and based them on things he half-understood in chemistry books. It's no surprise that he was arrested reliving his adolescent hijinks by stealing radioactive smoke alarms just like he stole hundreds of dollars of lithium batteries and thorium dioxide lantern mantles as a teenager.

David has found the 21st century to be a tougher place to play in. After 9/11 the fear of dirty bombs has discouraged companies from selling individuals hundreds of smoke detectors for a dollar each like they did back in 1994. You can't even get potassium nitrate at Rite Aid any more. It's as if they don't want people to make nitroglycerin for some reason!

How can someone be working on a second college degree when he never learned how to spell? He was a junior in high school yet he still couldn't spell "millions" or knew the difference between "sum" and "some". He got straight C's and D's and was a terrible student.

My Dad knows David. He told me that he is working on a second degree in college and spends time with animals. Appearently, David attempted to collect over 2,100 different alkaloids (which is what Warren 50 posted about), sometime after 2003(probably because he failed collecting all the elements on the periodic table when he was 14). I guess if you traveled the world you could find that many, along with unknown medicines derived from plants. The guy just probably really likes science. My dad told all the posts above are bogus.

That Thumper fellow is completely nuts and extremely annoying. I do not believe for a moment that he is the real David Hahn. He is a pest. He seems to have finally stopped his lunatic ravings - or has he been somehow "kicked out?" Let us all hope that he stays away and does not pop up in some other article claiming to be the man who flew across the English Channel with a jet-pack or somesuch.

After reading ALL of the comments, (yea i know. i was at work and had nothing better to do.)
Anyways I found this rather amusing, i'm not sure if this is someone going to a LOT of effort for a joke, or if this really is 'the radioactive boyscout'
I'm also shocked that no one else has really commented on here.

Well Mr Hahn from what i can tell you appear to be a relatively harmless fruit cake.
So i say good luck with your future inventions and watch out for those 'time cops' they are particularly pesky.

DI indeed

After reading all these comments, i think it is safe to say that most, if not all, of this stuff is basically WRONG! I haven't done a physics degree or anything (and neither has he, I bet), but even I can see that most of this stuff is just the insane ramblings of someone with too much time. Half of it is even misspelled (wemen). GET A LIFE!!! (and some English lessons)
