Show Us Your Goods!

We’re always on the lookout for talented writers here at Damn Interesting. If you’re intrigued by the notion of joining our close-knit gaggle of wordsmiths, simply send us a sample using the form below. Your writing sample can cover any topic that interests you, and there is no minimum length. When we look at your stuff, we’ll rate it by interestingness, accuracy, and quality… all are equally important.

Questions:

How much does this job pay?
Currently, there is no monetary benefit. We are hoping that our book project will bring in a few bucks for each of us, and we have a few other irons in the money-fire… but if you don’t enjoy writing for its own sake, this project probably won’t be your cup of tea.

How much brain-fruit do you hope to harvest from my fertile mind?
We’re looking for someone willing to commit to at least one article every eight weeks. We used to ask for more of a commitment, but we recognize that it’s tricky for talented writers to scare up much free time.

How many readers will see my stuff?
Our site receives about 25,000 visitors on a typical day, and up to about 90,000 on the days that new articles are posted. Additionally, we’re fortunate enough to have some of the most intelligent readers out there.

Can I submit something I wrote in the past, or does it have to be new?
Sure, you can regurgitate some previously-digested stuff… but preferably it should be something never before published.

Why can’t I just upload a file version of my writing sample?
Sorry, that makes things way too complicated on our end. If we had the time to navigate that jungle of complexity, we wouldn’t be looking for more help.

What should I write about?
Your ability to select a worthwhile topic will also be under scrutiny, so we don’t want to taint the results. We can, however, tell you what not to bother writing about:

  • Current events
  • Religious or political stuff
  • Topics that have been done to death
  • Popular culture dreck

If you have any other questions, you may find the answers on our About page. If not, just drop us a line, or stick your question in the Notes field along with your sample.
