The most telling about his whole story is that none of the almost infinite number of huge red flags caused the sceme to collapse. The only reason the conspirators eventually came under investigation by the financial authorities were that the bank’s founders were not part of the financial incrowd (“one of us”). And it was only by mere chance of duplicate numbers that the actual money printing was discovered.
